I feel pummelled by the sheer onslaught of corruption revelations both at the Zondo commission and elsewhere. I see it most in the horrific state of our commuter rail network (and living in the leafy suburbs, I most often see the “good” part of it).
It is therefore painful to try and concentrate on anything Ramaphosa says in the State of the Nation Address. Promises of renewable energy seem to stack up like waves on the shore. Promises of new anti-corruption units/committees/commissions/whatever are laughable when our current police and investigation units seem to be fighting amongst each other half the time. Our ex-president seems to openly flout the constitution and law and Magashule evades any kind of promises of accountability from his own party.
I’d love to believe in the promises of SONA 2021, but I’ve heard it before, and until the corrupt are held accountable, I don’t believe we’ll get anywhere. Tired.
